Lacrim

Born in Paris’ 20th arrondissement to Algerian parents, Karim Zenoud (April 19, 1985), aka Lacrim, is without a doubt the enfant terrible of French rap. He spent most of his teenage years in youth detention centers, and was imprisoned several times throughout his life. His first LP, Faites entrer Lacrim, was released in 2012 to critical acclaim. Featuring guest appearances by Keny Arkana, Rat Luciano, and Atheena, the album made it to Number 4 in the French Album charts. His next releases, the mixtapes Toujours le même and Né pour mourir also fared well in France, climbing even higher than its predecessor. In September of 2014, he released Corleone, his sophomore effort and his first album since signing with world-famous hip-hop label Def Jam. Even though the LP went platinum, it was not well received by the critics, who thought the album’s R&B influences sounded too mainstream. In 2015, after fleeing the country for gun possession charges and eventually surrendering to the French authorities, he released two new mixtapes which soon became gold records - R.I.P.R.O. Volume I & II. His next full-length album, Force et honneur was released in March, 2017 under his own label (Plata o Plomo), and was certified double platinum in August. That same year, the mixtape R.I.P.R.O. Volume III was released. Lacrim’s third LP, the star-studded LACRIM, saw the light of the day in February, 2019 and was certified gold only three months after its release. Preceded by the singles “Allez nique ta mère” and “Boston George,” which climbed to Number 3 on the French streaming charts, R.I.P.R.O. 4, the fourth installment of the mixtape series, came out in 2020 and featured cameos by Jul, Niska, Leto, and Soso Maness. A year later, Lacrim featured on Jul’s collective project Le Classico Organisé on the track “Loi de la Calle” and finally unveiled his highly anticipated fourth full-length Persona Non Grata, which entered the French Top 10 at Number 6.
