LaTocha Scott

LaTocha Reney Scott-Bivens, born on October 2, 1973, in Atlanta, Georgia, is an American singer-songwriter and actress. She discovered her love for performing at a very young age, showcasing her singing talents in church, weddings, and local talent shows. She rose to prominence in the 1990s as a member of the influential R&B girl group Xscape. The group, consisting of Scott, her sister Tamika, Kandi Burruss, and Tameka Cottle, came together in 1991 and quickly gained notoriety for their distinctive harmonies and captivating performances. Xscape's debut album, Hummin' Comin' at 'Cha, was released in 1993 and rose to Number 3 on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart thanks to the popularity of Number 1 singles like "Just Kickin' It" and "Understanding." The album's success led to a series of well-received releases, including Off the Hook (1995) and Traces of My Lipstick (1998), both of which cracked the Top 10 of the US R&B charts and received platinum certification by the RIAA. Inner tensions within the four-piece led LaTocha Scott to quit the group and embark on a solo career in 1999. Her debut single, "Liar, Liar" dropped in 2000 and hit Number 101 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart after being featured in the soundtrack of the comedy-drama The Best Man. During this time, she landed a record deal with Sony Urban and recorded an album titled Life Goes On that was shelved due to a conflict with the label. After severing ties with Sony, LaTocha Scott independently released her first solo album Solo Flight 404 (2003), which featured the single "Still Ghetto." Over the following decades, she participated in a short-lived Xscape reunion, made her acting debut on the 2005 feature film Fair Game, and issued the non-album singles "Bad Timing," (2012), "Complicated" (2012) with Wale, "Six4" (2019), and "Full-Time Love." Almost two decades after the release of her studio debut Solo Flight 404, she returned with the album The Invitation: A Conversation with God, released via Motown Gospel in April 2023. "Afraid," one of the singles from the album, peaked at Number 24 on the Adult R&B Songs chart.
