Lesette Wilson

Pianist, songwriter, and producer Lesette Wilson was born in Queens, New York. While she had recorded a few Latin/salsa albums in the late 1970s, she came to prominence as the keyboardist on trumpeter Tom Browne’s jazz fusion album Love Approach (1980), which featured the hit “Funkin’ for Jamaica.” The release of the album raised her commercial profile and she was offered a solo recording deal by Headfirst Records. She released her debut album Now That I've Got Your Attention in 1981. The album featured the single “Caveman Boogie,” which has become a rare groove/funk classic over the years. Lesette Wilson continued working behind the scenes, playing keyboards on Roy Ayers’ Africa, Center of the World album. She also co-wrote and produced Meli’sa Morgan’s albums Do Me Baby (1986) and Good Love (1987). Lesette Wilson released her second solo album, Unmasked, in 1993. The album featuring guest vocals from Tonni Smith, the lead vocalist on Tom Browne’s “Funkin’ for Jamaica” twelve years earlier. Lesette Wilson’s third album, Livin’ in the Zone, was released in 2001.
