Few artists have made such a powerful impression on pop culture in as little time as the Pulitzer, Tony, Emmy, and Grammy award winning Lin-Manuel Miranda. Born on January 16, 1980 in New York City, Lin-Manuel Miranda is an American actor, songwriter, playwright, producer, and film director. Born of Puerto Rican and Mexican descent, Lin-Manuel Miranda started showing an interest in musical theater during his teenage years. He started writing the earliest drafts of what would become his first Broadway musical, In the Heights, during his sophomore year at Wesleyan University. After going through several revisions, In the Heights ended up debuting off-Broadway in 2007, then moving to Broadway the following year, with Lin-Manuel Miranda in the lead role. The show was nominated for 13 Tony Awards, winning four, including Best Musical. His next project was writing the music and lyrics for Bring It On: The Musical along with Tom Kitt and Amanda Green. In 2014, Lin-Manuel Miranda earned an Emmy Award for writing the song “Bigger!” along with Tom Kitt for the opening number of the 67th Tony Awards. In 2015, Lin-Manuel Miranda premiered his play Hamilton: An American Musical, for which he wrote the book and score as well as starred as the titular character. The show was a Broadway sensation, smashing attendance records and earning the Tony Award for Best Musical, as well as the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. 2016 saw the release of the Disney animated film Moana, for which Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote the music. This collaboration with the studio continued with Encanto (2021), an animated film set in Colombia for which Lin-Manuel Miranda served as the principal songwriter. The accompanying soundtrack album reached Number 1 on the US Billboard 200 chart.
