Lo Moon

Drawing comparisons with The XX, Cocteau Twins and Roxy Music, Los Angeles trio Lo Moon spent years in the studio and on the road perfecting their brooding, glacial indie-electro signature sound, but were met with a growing buzz of critical and public excitement as their tracks slowly began to appear. After graduating from Berkley College of Music, front man Matt Lowell cut his teeth as a singer-songwriter in New York and released his debut solo album in 2007, but by 2012 he was working in a Brooklyn studio and looking for a band to transform his sound. Demos of his atmospheric synth-pop ballads and a move to Los Angeles kick-started the change of direction and when Crisanta Baker and Samuel Stewart joined the project they gradually evolved a signature sound that was electronic and dreamily romantic. With the help and mentorship of Death Cab for Cutie's Chris Walla as their producer, seven-minute ambient-pop single 'Loveless' was finally released to a huge response in 2016 and, despite a lack of material and mystery surrounding their identity, the band's reputation grew thanks to support slots with London Grammar, MUNA and Glass Animals. A deal with Columbia Records and follow-up tracks 'This Is It' and 'Thorns' further increased expectations, before their self-titled debut album was released in February 2018 with critics praising its slick, downbeat, R&B-electronica and amorous, synth ballads.
