Markus Gniech

Equally celebrated for his role as half of the duo Crane A.K. as well as for his work as DJ Knigge, Berlin producer/DJ Markus Gniech first began making a major impact on Germany's minimal tech-house scene in the late '90s. His music career first began back in 1993, though, when he first starting spinning techno around Germany. By 1996 he had also began experimenting with production, and then in late 1998 he teamed up with studio wizard Michael Friedrich to form Crane A.K. It didn't take long for the duo to make an impact as they were chosen to inaugurate acclaimed techno label Force Inc's new tech-house/minimal house subsidiary, Force Tracks. Given the label's global reach and the duo's remarkable productions, Gniech's role as DJ Knigge soon grew, sending him across Europe on numerous DJing gigs at such luminary clubs as Tresor, where he would lay down minimal tech-house sets. ~ Jason Birchmeier
