Michelle Williams

Michelle Williams rose to fame in the early 2000s as part of R&B girl group Destiny's Child, one of the best-selling all-female groups of all time. She was the first member of Destiny's Child to release a solo album when, during a break in touring with the group, she released contemporary gospel album 'Heart to Yours' in 2002. This was followed in 2004 with her second album 'Do You Know'. When Destiny's Child split up in 2006, she signed to Music World Entertainment and continued to concentrate on her solo career, in addition to several acting roles on stage, on TV and in film. Williams made her Broadway debut in 2003 in 'Aida' and also starred in TV series 'Half & Half' (2006) and musical 'The Color Purple' (2007). In 2008, she released her third album, 'Unexpected', her first dance/pop album rather than the gospel sound which she had favoured in her first two releases. 'Unexpected' contained the international chart-topping single 'We Break the Dawn' (2008) and the US number one dance hit 'The Greatest'. The album featured collaborations with artists such as StarGate, Solange Knowles and Rico Love. From 2009-10, Williams starred in the show 'Chicago', in London's West End, and then on Broadway. In 2010, she left Music World Entertainment and parted company with her manager. She then released the single 'Stay for a Moment' (2010) as a free download to celebrate gaining 100,000 followers on Twitter. She starred in the musicals 'What My Husband Doesn't Know' in 2011, and 'Fela!' in 2013. During this time she signed with the label Light Records. 2014 saw the release of her next album 'Journey to Freedom', preceded by the lead single 'If We Had Your Eyes' (2013). Also released from the album were 'Fire' (2013) and 'Say Yes' (2013), featuring her fellow Destiny's Child band members Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland. 'Say Yes' topped the US Hot Gospel Songs, Gospel Digital Songs and Gospel Streaming charts. In 2018, she released the single 'Fearless' on the label Radiance Music Group, and continued to enjoy her acting career with performances in 'Raven's Home' (2018), 'Once On This Island' (2018-9) and as Diana Ross on 'American Soul' (2019).
