Milky Chance

Milky Chance is a German rock formed in Kassel, Hesse, in 2012 by friends Clemens Rehbein and Philipp Dausch. In 2013, the duo decided to put their track "Stolen Dance" on the Internet to see what reception it got. The track became an overnight sensation, scoring millions of hits, resulting in Milky Chance - the band they conceived together - becoming international stars. Rehbein, a singer-songwriter, and Dausch, a DJ, had been at school together in Kassel and started their music careers in a jazz quintet called Flown Tones; when that band split up they merged their songs with acoustic guitars and electronica and became Milky Chance. They'd played only two live shows when they started recording their first LP and began uploading material on the Internet, which is when "Stolen Dance" won them a huge audience. The single subsequently topped the charts all over Europe while the new band started to play high-profile concerts. Their first LP Sadnecessary also became a big success launching their career in the US a year after its release in Germany. They continued to tour constantly over the next two years before releasing their second album Blossom in 2017, expanding their approach into a more robust pop sound that incorporated elements from reggae, Latin, psychedelia, and African rhythms. Preceded by the singles "Daydreaming," "The Game," and "Fado," their fourth album Mind the Moon was issued in 2019 via Muggelig Records. Though not as successful as its predecessors, it still managed to peak at Number 23 on the German charts. Over the next few years, Milky Chance released the compilations Trip Tape (2021) and Trip Tape II (2022) and recorded an acoustic version of their studio debut Sadnecessary in 2022. "Living in a Haze," the lead single from the group's fourth album of the same name, came out in 2023 and reached Number 60 in Germany, with its parent album finally hitting the shelves in June of that year.
