Miss Montreal

Miss Montreal is a band formed by Dutch singer/songwriter Roos-Ann Hans (AKA Sanne Hans) in 2008 in the Netherlands. Initially, Hans was a member of a trio by the name of Ysis, but they disbanded in 2008. She then sang commercial advertisements and provided backing vocals for various Dutch artists before forming her next band, Miss Montreal. Even though the moniker Miss Montreal was originally the name of the band, Hans is the focal point and fans refer to her Miss Montreal. The first decade of Miss Montreal’s existence, Hans sang in English but slowly reverted to singing in Dutch. Her first single, “Just a Flirt”, was released in 2008 and reached Number 11 on the Dutch Top 40. Miss Montreal’s self-titled debut album was issued in 2009, reaching Number 15 on the Dutch Albums Top 100 chart. So… Anything Else?, her sophomore album, was released in 2010, climbing five places higher to Number 10. Hans achieved even more fame in 2009 by singing the theme to the children’s TV series Huisje, Boompje, Beestje. She released her third album, I Am a Hunter (2012), which rose to Number 5 on the chart. That same year, Hans was a judge on the television competition series De Beste Singer-Songwriter Van Nederland and then became a judge on The Voice of Holland. She released her fourth album, Irrational, in 2014. The album reached Number 3 on the Dutch albums chart. In 2015, she released the compilation album The Singles Collection. Her next studio album, Don’t Wake Me Up (2016) was her highest charting album yet, landing at Number 2. Her 2017 album Liedjes Voor Jullie was Miss Montreal’s first album sung completely in Dutch. In 2020, she released the EP Beste Zangers Seizoen 2020, which featured the single “Door De Wind”.
