MYMP

MYMP ( Make Your Momma Proud) formed in Quezon City, the Philippines in 2003 as a tribute to founder Jacques "Chin" Alcantara's mother who died of breast cancer. The acoustic favourites stepped out with their debut album for Ivory Records, Soulful Acoustic, that same year and upped their game on their second album, Beyond Acoustic (2005), which became one of the biggest-selling LPs ever produced by an acoustic band, debuting at number six on the Philippine Top Albums chart. Following an updated acoustic version of Beyond Acoustic and a live LP in 2006, MYMP Live at the Music Museum, they dropped new album New Horizon that same year, followed by Now in 2008, marking their last release for Ivory Music. In 2010, Juris Fernandez was kicked out of the group due to "irreconcilable professional differences" and new vocalist Juliet Bahala was welcomed into the fold, singing on MYMP's sixth album The Unreleased Acoustic Collection, which was released in May 2011 via Galaxy Records. Juliet Bahala was later signed off due to a variety of medical conditions and following a few more line-up changes, the group settled on new vocalist Carmella Ravanilla. She helped to usher in a temporary new chapter for MYMP with their first original song in six years, "Wishes & Dreams", which saw them return to former label Ivory Music. On October 30, 2020, MYMP faced a huge backlash after Chin Alcantara wore blackface live on Facebook for a Halloween show. During the session, the group decried the Black Lives Matter movement and reportedly declared "All Lives Matter". In spite of the controversy, they returned in 2021 with new single "You're the Inspiration".
