Old 97's

The Old 97's are a Texas rock band who were pioneers of alternative country having been formed in Dallas in the 1990s by singer-songwriter Rhett Miller, guitarist Murry Hammond, bassist Ken Bethea and drummer Philip Peebles. Hailed for their lively concert performances, they have been cited by 'Rolling Stone' magazine as "one of the sleekest... power pop bands around". Boosted by early support from country star Waylon Jennings, they took time to register with recordings but now have a solid list of album releases including 'Hitchhike to Rhome', 'Wreck Your Life', 'Too Far to Care' and 'Fight Songs'. Although members of the group have recorded separately, in 2001 they put out an album together with more of a pop sound titled 'Satellite Rides' followed in 2004 by 'Drag It Up'. A national tour resulted in a two-disc concert album titled 'Alive & Wired' and releases since have included 'Blame It On Gravity' and two volumes of 'The Grand Theatre'. An EP in 2013 titled 'Old 97's & Waylon Jennings' featured their mentor and two more albums followed - 'Most Messed Up' in 2014, their most successful release peaking at number 30 on the Billboard 200, and 'Graveyard Whistling' in 2017.
