Oliver Tree

Oliver Tree – born Oliver Tree Nickell on June 29, 1993, in Santa Cruz, California - is a comedian, songwriter, rapper, and electro-pop/rock musician best known for his 2016 viral hit “When I’m Down” (featuring Whethan). After developing an interest in DJing as a high school student, he began releasing music under his middle name, Tree. He released his debut album, Splitting Branches, independently in early 2013 and followed that up with the Demons EP later the same year. Three years later, he released the single "When I'm Down," which became a viral sensation and earned him a record contract with Atlantic. Now backed by one of the biggest labels in the music industry, Oliver Tree released the gold-certified Alien Boy EP in 2018. The EP's title track went platinum. Another EP, Do You Feel Me?, arrived in 2019 and produced the hit single "Hurt," which peaked at Number 4 on the Alternative Airplay chart and Number 11 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart. One year later, Oliver Tree released his major label debut album, Ugly Is Beautiful. Debuting at Number 14 on the Billboard 200 and Number 1 on Billboard's Top Rock Albums chart, Ugly Is Beautiful also fared well internationally, cracking the Top 40 in Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, and the UK. "Miracle Man," "Cash Machine," "Let Me Down," and "Bury Me Alive" all became Top 40 hits on the American rock charts. However, it was "Life Goes On" — a track from Ugly Is Beautiful's extended edition — that became the album's biggest hit, charting at Number 14 in Norway, Number 33 in Ireland, Number 34 in the UK, and Number 10 on the American Hot Rock & Alternative Songs. Oliver Tree released his Welcome to the Internet EP in September 2021, which included the single “Turn It Up” (featuring the Russian band Little Big and Tommy Cash). In February 2020, he released Cowboy Tears, his second album, which includes the singles “Cowboys Don’t Cry,” “Freaks & Geeks,” and “Swing & a Miss.” Three years later, Oliver Tree released the album Alone in a Crowd (2023), which included the singles “Miss You” (with Robin Schulz), “Fairweather Friends,” “Bounce,” “One & Only,” and “Essence” (with Super Computer).
