Philippe Jordan

The Swiss composer Philippe Jordan was born in Zurich in 1974. He enroled at the city's Conservatory at the age of 16 obtaining a diploma in piano instruction. He then went on to study theory and composition with Hans Lehmann and piano with Karl Engel. With such a thorough grounding in the study and application of classical music it is little wonder that Jordan has risen through the ranks of the world of classical music to become a highly respected conductor and musical director. Although closely associated with Vienna (he is the chief conductor of the Vienna Symphony) Jordan has established himself on the international circuit and has made frequent appearances in the USA and the UK. As well as his career as a conductor and musical director, Jordan is an accomplished pianist with a successful recording career specialising in recital and chamber music. His recording of Beethoven symphonies in association with the Vienna Symphony are considered to be the best examples of his work.
