Richard Swift

Singer-songwriter and producer Richard Swift was born into a family of Quaker musicians and began his early life performing in churches. At the age of 24 he moved to California to pursue a solo career where he met Frank Letz, a highly respected drummer and producer with whom he recorded his first solo album 'Walking Without Effort'. He eventually signed to Secretly Canadian, an independent record company who Swift worked with throughout his short career. His talents as a musician and producer led him to explore many opportunities with bands outside his solo career and he would often make significant contributions to the albums of up-and-coming indie artists. He was also involved with an electronic music side project which he called Instruments of Science and Technology. Behind the busy life of a jobbing musician and family man Swift struggled with a long term alcohol abuse problem and this ultimately led to his premature death at the age of 41 from medical complications brought on by his addiction. He left behind a recording legacy of eight studio albums and numerous other contributions as a producer.
