Sinergy

The Finnish heavy metal band Sinergy formed in Helsinki in 1997. The idea for the band took form when American keyboardist Kimberly Goss (formerly of Dimmu Borgir) met guitar player Jesper Strömblad (formerly of In Flames) in the mid-1990s. They slowly added more players, including Children of Bodom drummer Alexi Laiho. Their 1999 debut album, Beware the Heavens, gained notice for both the fact that they were a metal act fronted by a woman, and for their sound, a throwback to the tone of the Doro Pesch led metal band Warlock. Separated physically, the band fell apart, but Goss and Laiho put together a new formation featuring Tonmi Lillman on drums, Marco Hietala on bass, and Roope Latvala on guitar. That line-up recorded 2000’s To Hell and Back, and started to build a name among European metalheads. Lillman exited after 2002 Suicide by My Side, and attempts at a fourth album failed to come together. Lillman passed away in 2012, and Laiho died on December 29, 2020.
