S-X

Hailing from the English city of Wolverhampton, multi-faceted electronic producer Sam Andrew Gumbley (born 4 August 1992) – known professionally as S-X – began laying the groundwork for his successful production career in the mid-'00s with his "Woo Riddim" instrumental, which he created when he was just 15. The tune was picked up as an instrumental by the grime community after it was used by trailblazing East London MC D Double E for his 2010 track "Bad 2 Tha Bone." S-X was signed up to work as a producer for Atlantic Records and spent the '10s creating beats for some of grime and UK rap's biggest voices, including Skepta, Dappy, and Chip, also expanding his beatmaking portfolio to include huge US stars like Lil Wayne, Kevin Gates, Childish Gambino, and Lupe Fiasco. With a solid production catalog under his belt, in early 2017 he took his first steps towards songwriting, adding his own voice to his beats and dropping his debut mixtape, Reasons, in 2018. That year, he landed a gig supporting Lily Allen on the North American and European leg of her No Shame tour and dropped a follow-up EP, Temporary. 2019 was a landmark year for S-X who scored his first UK top ten for his appearance (and production contribution) on KSI's hip-hop single "Down Like That," which also featured Rick Ross and Lil Baby. He entered 2020 with a new solo single, "neither would i" –which charted at number 45 in the UK – as well as making his foray into television to star alongside KSI as a cast member on the second series of Channel 4's Celebrity Gogglebox. Later that year he signed with Universal Music Group and unleashed his first major-label single, "Dangerous," achieving his highest-charting solo release to date (number 31). After parting ways with Universal and signing to RBC Records and BMG, he dropped his new mixtape, A Repeat Wouldn't Go a Miss, in 2021, which was preceded by the release of two singles: "Feels So Good" and "Too Late in the Night". In 2022, he reunited with KSI for the Weeknd-esque '80s-tinged emo-pop track, "Locked Out."
