Originally meeting in their native city, Danny O'Donoghue and Mark Sheehan formed part of Dublin, Ireland-based band MyTown in 1996. With four members, the group achieved some success in the UK and Ireland but were pushed aside by the increasing numbers of boy bands that were entering the scene. However, the songwriting partnership between O'Donoghue and Sheehan had already been recognized and, after the demise of the MyTown, the pair travelled to Canada and the US to work with Teddy Riley and Montell Jordan. Several years later, the duo returned to Dublin, where they added drummer Glen Power to the mix and hit an even richer vein of songwriting. Now called The Script, they released their first tracks on social media in 2005. Their debut single “We Cry” was released in April 2008 and received widespread support on radio networks in the UK and Ireland and hit the Top 20 and Top 10 in the UK and Irish Singles Charts, respectively. Follow-up single “The Man Who Can't Be Moved” peaked at Number 2 in the UK, Ireland, and Denmark, helping their eponymous debut album fly into the UK Albums Chart at Number 1. The album eventually went multi-platinum with more than 600,000 sales. Their third single “Breakeven” came out in 2008, proved a hit in Ireland and Russia, and was also their first US single released in April 2010. “For the First Time” arrived from second studio album Science & Faith (2010) and reached Number 1 in the band's native Ireland. Third album, titled #3, arrived in 2012 and included the single “Hall of Fame” which featured O'Donoghue's co-judge on The Voice UK at the time, rapper will.i.am. No Sound without Silence was released in 2014 and peaked at Number 1 in both the UK and Ireland Albums Charts. The band took a brief hiatus before fifth studio album Freedom Child was released in 2017. Eventually, the band were able to continue to perform and record, with sixth album Sunsets & Full Moons arriving in 2019. It included the single “The Last Time” which hit Number 1 in Scotland and Belgium. In August 2021, the group released the single “I Want It All”, which was followed by their first best-of collection Tales from the Script: Greatest Hits. The compilation features songs pulled from all of their previous studio albums, one new track (the single “I Want It All”), and one acoustic track.
