Thievery Corporation

Club owners Rob Garza and Eric Hilton formed Thievery Corporation in the American capital city in 1995, employing various artists on a series of hit albums on the Eighteenth Street Lounge Music record label that cover styles from dance to dub to hip-hop, jazz and bossa nova. Artists who have performed with the duo include Jeff Franca, Racquel Jones, Mr. Lif, Frank 'Booty Lock' Mitchell, Rob Myers and Ashish Vyas. On their Facebook page, the duo say their recordings are the result of careful study "of everything from Jamaican dub reggae to punk to vintage film soundtracks to psychedelic space rock". Their 1997 debut album 'Sounds from the Thievery Hi-Fi' was re-released in 2002 when it reached number eight on Billboard's Jazz Albums Chart and 2006 when it peaked at number 12 on the Top Dance/Electronic Albums Chart. They released two albums in 2000, 'Departures' and 'The Mirror Conspiracy', which went to number 28 on the Independent Albums Chart. 'The Richest Man in Babylon' (2002) reached number two on the Dance/Electronic Chart and number nine on the Independents. 'The Outernational Sound' (2004) peaked at number three and number 20 respectively followed by 'Babylon Rewind' (2004) at number five and number 40, 'Cosmic Game' (2005) at number one and number six, 'Versions' (2006) at number seven and number 19, 'Radio Retaliation' (2008) at number one and number five and 'Culture of Fear' (2011) at number two and number seven. Their seventh album, 'Saudade' in 2013, was their first record devoted to the Brazilian music that first inspired them. The title comes from a Portuguese word that means melancholy. The release hit number two on the Dance/Electronic Chart and number 15 on the Independent Albums Chart. Their 2017 release 'Temple of I & I' peaked at number four and number seven respectively. A 2017 tour in support of the album took Thievery Corporation to venues across the United States with an extensive European leg that included dates in England, France, Germany, Greece, Portugal and Spain. Dates set for 2018 include several cities in Australia.
