This Is the Kit

This Is the Kit is a musical project started by musician and songwriter Kate Stables who as well as singing for the band also plays banjo and guitar. The band began their recording career in 2006 when they recorded "Two Wooden Spoons" for a compilation album released by Sunday Best Recordings, a label owned by Rob Gorman who also happens to be a BBC radio DJ, better known as Rob da Bank. The band, who perform in a variety of formats from duo to quintet, have now released four studio albums. Their third album Bashed Out was released in 2015 and it was this record which brought the band widespread recognition and critical acclaim. The band have been slowly building up an audience for their work through the patronage of various BBC radio disc jockeys such as Lauren Laverne, Radcliffe and Maconie, Marc Riley and Cerys Matthews. The band were also the subject of a BBC Music Box documentary which highlighted in detail their history and musical influences. The show was hosted by Elbow's Guy Garvey who was an enthusiastic advocate of their work and his interest in the band helped build their credibility as performers. They are now an established and respected act within the folk-rock genre and make regular live appearances throughout the UK. In 2017, This is the Kit issued their fourth album Moonshine Freeze, which arrived via Rough Trade Records with their fifth offering Off Off On following in 2020 and going to number 21 in the UK. Scoring a hat-trick for Rough Trade Records, the band unveiled their sixth album Careful of Your Keepers in 2023.
