Tom Misch

Born on June 25th, 1995 in London, Tom Misch is a young British singer-songwriter, guitarist and record producer who gained attention via online sketches and tracks before he released his debut album Geography in 2018. Sampled by local rap artists, he put out an EP titled Out to Sea with singer-songwriter Carmody in 2014 and a series of instrumental tracks under the name Beat Tape 1 plus the single “Memory”. Beat Tape 2 followed in 2015, boasting contributions from an all-star cast of hotly tipped British R&B singers and alternative rappers including Loyle Carner, Jordan Rakei and Zak Abel. After releasing another EP, Reverie, and a single entitled “South of the River”, he returned with the collaborative project 5 Day Mischon in 2017. Comprising five songs recorded over the course of five days, it featured contributions from grime MC and Mercury Prize nominee Novelist and saxophonist Kaidi Akinnibi among others. A fan favourite arrived the same year in the form of the Loyle Carner collaboration “Damselfly”, taken from Carner’s debut album, the UK top 20 effort Yesterday’s Gone. Tom Misch’s own debut album, Geography, arrived in April 2018. Packed with guest vocalists including American rappers De La Soul and GoldLink, it reached #8 in the UK Albums Chart and #2 on the US Billboard Jazz Albums Chart. He went on to collaborate with high-profile UK contemporaries including synthpop duo HONNE, R&B sensation Jorja Smith and BBC Sound of… title holder Michael Kiwanuka in the following two years, embarking on an international tour in support of the album before reemerging in 2020 with What Kinda Music, a sprawling joint effort with jazz percussionist Yussef Dayes. Preceded by a single with US hip-hop heavyweight Freddie Gibbs entitled “Nightrider”, it improved on the performance of its predecessor, reaching #4 in the UK Albums Chart.
