Tones and I

Toni Watson, more commonly known as Tones and I, made the unlikely transition from Australian street busker to international star with her laidback electro-pop sound, which began yielding a number of hit singles during the late 2010s. Although sources differ regarding her birthdate, she was born on Australia's Mornington Peninsula, where she learned to play the keyboard and drum pad in school. She made her busking debut on Bourke Street in Melbourne's city center, but it was a trip to Byron Bay that truly launched her career. There, she rapidly built a following, soon quitting her job in retail and winning the Battle of the Buskers at Buskers By the Creek in late 2018. Watson released her debut single, "Johnny Run Away," in March 2019, earning a triple-platinum certification and peaking at Number 12 on the ARIA Singles Chart. Her follow-up hit, "Dance Monkey," charted even higher, topping the charts in nine countries (including Australia, Germany, and the UK) and going quadruple-platinum in America. Both songs appeared on her debut EP, The Kids Are Coming, which was released in 2019. Two years later, she returned with her full-length debut album, Welcome to the Madhouse, which topped the Australian charts and yielded the international Top 40 hit "Fly Away."
