Vishal Dadlani

Singer-songwriter Vishal Dadlani – born in Bombay, India on June 28, 1973 – is best known as the front man for electronic rock band Pentagram and as one-half of Vishal-Shekhar, a duo known for writing, performing, and producing music for Hindi cinema (a.k.a. Bollywood). Vishal Dadlani began his musical career in the Mumbai-based electronica band Pentagram, who became pioneers of Indian indie music. The group released their debut album, We’re Not Listening, in 1996. Pentagram released three more albums over the next 15 years: Up (2002), It’s OK, It’s All Good (2007), and Bloodywood (2011). While continuing to work with Pentagram, Vishal Dadlani began a songwriting and performing partnership with fellow songwriter, musician, and producer Shekhar Ravijani. The duo – known as Vishal-Shekhar – composed music for their first Bollywood film, Pyaar Mein Kabhi Kabhi, in 1999. While the duo wrote most of their material for Hindi-language cinema, they also composed songs in other languages including Telugu, Marathi, Punjabi, Bengali, and Tamil. Vishal-Shekhar became a popular duo, nominated by the Filmfare Awards as Best Music Directors for films such as Dus (2005), Om Shanti Om (2007), Anjaana Anjaani (2010), Ra.One (2011), Student of the Year (2012), Sultan (2016), and Bharat (2019). Vishal Dadlani’s work in the duo made him a popular singer in India, earning him many accolades and film award nominations throughout the years. Vishal-Shekhar remained a prolific duo, writing music for big-budget films including Pathaan (2023), which includes the hit single “Besharam Rang,” a song that also features Shilpa Rao and Caralisa Moneiro.
