Vivian Chow

Vivian Chow Wai-man (known as Vivian Chow), born on November 10, 1967, in Hong Kong, is a singer-songwriter and actress. Growing up studying music, she was awarded the runner-up prize in the 4th Rookie Singing Contest in 1985, and was invited to audition for both Polygram Records and EMI Records. In 1986, she participated in the amateur disc jockey competition hosted by Radio Television Hong Kong and in June 1987, began her career as a broadcaster. In 1988, she joined ArtVision Records, making her debut with "The Heroine in the Stage," before releasing her self-titled EP to critical acclaim. In 1991, Chow signed with Polygram, giving up her job as disc jockey to focus on her music career and in 1992, released her first Cantonese album, Endless Dream, which included hit single "If You Know My Difficulties”, following this with her first Mandarin album, Rumor in November that year, its title track attracting Taiwanese fans, seeing Chow’s career gain momentum in 1993 seeing her second Mandarin album, Everything Without Saying certified 6 x Platinum. Over the next few years, Chow attained staggering success with several Cantonese and Mandarin albums including Favorite and Heavy Hearts, earning her the Most Popular Foreign Female Singer Award from Japan's NHK, and becoming one of the final five in the Most Popular Female Singer poll of Hong Kong's top ten golden songs, after selling over 1.4 million records in Southeast Asia. After an extended hiatus, Chow returned to the stage in 2011, performing two concerts at the Hong Kong Coliseum to celebrate the 25th anniversary of entering the industry and in 2014 released her first full length album since returning to the music scene with HIMy appearing in December that year. In 2023, Chow re-entered the charts with 1994 hit song "Zui Ai," charting at number 173.
