V.V. Brown

Interestingly describing her sound as "musical mashed potatoes", VV Brown - also a model - rocketed to fame in 2009 when the press widely touted her as the female sound of 2009 with Little Boots and Lady GaGa, after a series of high profile shows - including Glastonbury Festival and the Teenage Cancer Trust concert at London's Royal Albert Hall. The eldest of six children born to a Jamaican mother and a Puerto Rican father, Brown studied classical music and jazz piano and turned down offers of places at various top universities (including Oxford) to devote herself to a career in music. Signed by Universal Records, her 2009 debut album Travelling Like The Light was inspired by 1950s pop and electronica with songs largely about a doomed love affair. She has also collaborated with Jamie Cullum and Killa Kela and has established a separate career as a songwriter using the name Geeki.
