Yaeji

Yaeji is an American singer, DJ, and music producer. Her birth name is Kathy Yaeji Lee, and she was born on August 6, 1993, in Flushing, Queens, New York City. She was born into a Korean family and lived in various places throughout her young life, including New York, Atlanta, South Korea, and Japan. She went to school for conceptual art and graphic design, and during her studies she began to experiment with DJing. She moved back to New York City after graduating to pursue a music career in earnest, releasing her debut single "New York ‘93" in 2016. This was followed by a self-titled debut EP in 2017. That same year, she released her second EP, fittingly titled EP2. With these early releases, Yaeji established her music style, which combines house music with hip-hop and features mellow, chilled-out vocals in English and Korean. Yaeji garnered mainstream attention with her remix of Drake’s song "Passionfruit," which she performed during her first Boiler Room session. Over the next few years, Yaeji was included as part of BBC’s Sound of 2018 list and offered her first-ever Coachella performance. In 2020, she released her mixtape What We Drew 우리가 그려왔던. Around this time, she released several stand-alone singles as well as collaborations with artists such as Oh Hyuk. Yaeji’s debut full-length album, With a Hammer, was released in 2023. "Done (Let’s Get It)," the album's second single, peaked at Number 70 on JWAVES' Top Hot 100 Songs chart.
