Brandon Lake

A Grammy and Dove Award winner, Brandon Lake funnels a diverse, genre-jumping spread of influences into his Christian worship music. Born Michael Brandon Lake in Charleston, South Carolina, on June 21, 1990, he was inspired by contemporary Christian and gospel artists such as Chris Tomlin and Third Day. He started writing music and serving as a worship leader during his teenage years before working for Seacoast Church as the worship leader for the college ministry. Brandon Lake’s debut album, Closer, was paid for by a crowdfunding campaign and was released independently in 2016. Signing with Bethel Music in 2019, he released his version of Tasha Cobbs Leonard's "This Is a Move" — a song he co-wrote for the gospel artist — that summer, reaching the Top 40 on the US Christian Songs chart for the first time. Brandon Lake's recording of "This Is a Move" won a Dove Award for Gospel Worship Recorded Song of the Year, as well as a Grammy nomination for Best Gospel Performance/Song. A full-length album, House of Miracles, followed in 2020, reaching number 22 on Billboard's Top Christian Albums chart and producing the singles "I Need a Ghost" and "Just Like Heaven," both of which became Top 40 hits on the Christian charts. That same year, he appeared on Elevation Worship's "Graves Into Gardens" as a songwriter and guest singer. The duet became his first number 1 hit on the Hot Christian Songs chart and won a GMA Award for Worship Recorded Song of the Year. His third album, Help!, was released in 2022, with Brandon Lake billing the project as a concept album about mental health. In 2022, Brandon Lake won his first Grammy for his work on Elevation Worship and Maverick City Music’s Old Church Basement album. In 2023, he won four Grammy Awards for his collaborations with Maverick City Music and Kirk Franklin. He released his third studio album, Coat of Many Colors, in 2023, which featured the singles “Count ‘Em,” “Praise You Anywhere,” “Tear Off the Roof,” and the title track.
