Hebe Tien

Having accrued more than 658 million views on YouTube, the Taiwanese singer Hebe Tien is now the most successful female Chinese-language singer on the platform. She was born in the city of Hsinchu in 1983 and emerged into the public eye as a 17-year-old contestant on the TV talent show 'Universal 2000 Talent and Beauty Contest'. Tien ended up in the last seven contestants out of an original field of more than one thousand young hopefuls. Although she didn't win the competition she was offered a position in a new all-girl band called S.H.E. which was being created by the show's organisers. Along with fellow band members Selina Jen and Ella Chen, Tien enjoyed a successful ten-year run with the band during which time they sold more than ten million records. In 2010 Tien branched out into a solo career (whilst still remaining a member of S.H.E.) with the release of her solo album 'To Hebe'. She has since released a further three studio albums and has become one of the most popular Chinese-language artists within Mandarin-speaking Asia.
