Softengine

Softengine is a Finnish alternative rock band formed in Seinäjoki in 2011. They rose to fame after representing Finland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 with the song “Something Better.” Composed of childhood friends Topi Latukka, Ossi Mäkelä, Eero Keskinen, Henri Oskár, and Tuomo Alarinta, the five-piece started playing together in the summer of 2011, using Latukka’s grandparents’ cottage as rehearsal space. After years of practicing and playing local gigs, Softengine reached its definitive lineup in 2013. They won the Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu in 2014 and were selected to represent their country at the Eurovision Song Contest that same year. “Something Better” made it to the finals and ended up 11th, achieving Finland’s best position since their victory in 2006. Preceded by the Finnish Grammy-nominated singles “Yellow House” and “The Sirens,” We Created the World (2014) was released via Sony Music Entertainment and peaked at Number 7 on the Finnish charts. “All About You and I,” and “Big Fat Bass Drums” anticipated the release of From Earth, From Ashes, From Dust (2015), a 5-song EP that found the alt-rockers expanding their sound even further, incorporating ballads and dance tracks into their repertoire.
