Theocracy

American Christian progressive power metal group Theocracy was established in 2002 by Matt Smith, hailing from Athens, Georgia. Originally a solo endeavour, with Smith handling all instrumental and vocals, the band’s eponymous album was released on January 1, 2003, incorporating a sound that tempered power metal with progressive influences, which resonated with Christian metal fans, globally. The band's second album, Mirror of Souls, released on November 21, 2008, marked their transition into a full band, with Josh Sloan (bass), Shawn Benson (drums) and Jonathan Hinds (guitar/keyboard) joining the line-up. After the addition of lead guitarist Val Allen Wood and new bassist Jared Oldham, Theocracy’s third album, As the World Bleeds, hit the North American market on November 21, 2011, arriving in Europe on November 25, 2011. Following this release, the band unveiled their first official music video, titled “Hide in the Fairytale”, on September 5, 2012, embarking on a European tour to support the remastered reissue of their self-titled debut album in November 2013. On October 28, 2016, Theocracy launched their fourth studio album, Ghost Ship before taking an extended hiatus, returning in 2023 with new single "Return to Dust" and announcing the release of fifth studio album, Mosaic which appeared on October 13, reaching number 99 on the Top 100 Albums chart in Germany.
